THE WHITE WHALE THE WHITE WAIL: AUNTS (2013)
Inspired by Melville’s classic MOBY-DICK and the general romance of whaling lore, on May 25, 2013 THE SPACE WE MAKE performed a live music & movement performance exploring the notion of massive, weightless bodies, the loneliness of unknown oceans, and the meaning of the songs humans and whales both sing. While they call out perpetually, we may never hear them with our own ears.
Creative fodder, ideas, words, and stories were sourced from the text itself (M-D). Thusly, THE WHITE WHALE THE WHITE WAIL was crafted into group song, movement and improvisation, making space for the safety of familiarity and the excitement, or terror, of uncharted waters to exist in eddies and waves.
This was our departure, our time at sea, and our return.
